You will soon be seeing a lot less of me
After reaching a critical mass of almost 420lbs, I decided last week that I need to lose weight. I made some relatively simple changes to my diet, and as you can hopefully see by the “Bulk-O-Meter” on the right, it’s making a big and quick difference, 11 pounds in a week
Of course someone as overweight as me can quickly lose weight, so I don’t expect to be able to keep this trend up every week, but I’m confident that over time I will slowly but surely lose weight.
My first goal is to get to under 400 pounds, which I should definitely be able to reach by Christmas. As for the diet I am on, it’s nothing special, I mostly stopped drinking my daily habit of Coca-Cola. Even though I have drank some Fresca, its mostly because I like the way it tastes, but I dont want to drink to much of it because it has Aspartame in it. I have not cut out all sugar, but I’ve tried to cut down, and it’s obviously helping. As for the rest of the diet, I have been slowly moving towards the Atkins diet, as I know from past experience that is one of the only ones that works for me and my metabolism.
I don’t actually like to talk about what diet I am on, or even say that I am on a diet, because I am usually either flooded with advice, or informed how unhealthy the diet I am on is. Friendly advice is appreciated, but I know what works for me so I don’t like having to argue with someone over what I am eating. If it makes anyone feel better I do take vitamin supplements as well
Another thing that is helping is ironically, being out of work. Without the daily “where are we going to lunch today”, it’s been much easier to eat whatever I want, without having to deal with going to fast food or otherwise daily on a social basis.
Anyhow, with any luck, you will start seeing a lot “less” of me. Wish me luck!

Good luck man! I cut out sugared soda last year (was drinking like 1k calories of mountain dew a day) and lost 20 lbs in two months. It makes a HUGE difference!
Not sure if you’ve considered this path, but a friend of mine lost 150 lbs using the Lap Band and it was all covered by his insurance.
In either case I applaud your effort and wish you the best of luck!

Thanks man. The support of friends really does help. That’s part of the reason why I just slapped the graph of my weight on my blog etc. I’m obviously overweight so why be shy about how much, if anything showing it publicly may help shame me into staying on track

Wishing you all the will-power and luck in the world!! It is a daily struggle. Your post motivated me today to get my fat ass to the gym! I need so much motivation each time I go. It is hard not to eat the wrong foods when everyone around you is eating it. There was all sorts of holiday junk at work this weekend and not one morsel passed through my lips! I have always said I have low metabolism but recently I am pretty sure I have NO metabolism – my body temp is around 96.8! Rediculous!!! Anyway, fight the good fight- it is worth it.

I can’t believe you are on that diet! It’s so unhealthy!!! Hahaha just kidding man. Good luck. Looks like I will closely behind u. I HAVE to start exercising. This belly is unacceptable.

Really cool you are into this, dude. It is not about the looks, it’s about health. I like your approach: “I’m confident that over time I will slowly but surely lose weight”.
Most of people want immediate results and losing weight isn’t fast. You have to retrain yourself, change your eating habits to eat better and this takes time. With your “not in a rush” approach I am sure you will pull this off.
Take care,
Rod

Rod, Yep that’s exactly what I’m thinking. Honestly losing weight, especially a lot of weight, is a very long process. Even under a strict regimen it will take me more than a year to lose most of my weight, maybe even 2 years – we are talking about losing 200+ pounds!
So I’m not going to stress about losing X pounds per day/week/month, just set small hopefully easily obtainable goals, like getting to under 400lbs by Christmas. I technically gives me 30 days to lose only 11 more pounds, but I know that weight fluctuates and I might gain a pound or two or plateau on the way, so it might take me the whole 30 days, but I will reach my goal and not be disappointed. Once I reach that goal I will set another, like 380lbs, etc.
Thanks for your support!

I love that you said, “I do what makes me feel good and what works for me”. The truth, is the only good diet is the one you can stick too. So do what works well for you. Take it slow and make tiny changes so they’ll be life long ones. People’s tastes and needs change over time – we all know that – so you gotta do what works right now in this moment in life. Congrats on kicking the coke habit – that is tough to do and you should be totally proud of yourself for just doing that.
