Meteor shower and Perihelion

Today the earth will be the closest to the sun for 2013. Don’t expect to see a “Super Sun”, tt’s not a huge difference, only about 3.4% more than when it is farthest away, which happens right after the 4th of July.

Also today/tonight is the peak of the Quadrantid Meteor shower. Sadly tonights bright moon will make all but the brightest meteors hard to see. The viewing window on this one is relatively short. See for more info.
